Media report: Steve
The men’s and women’s clothing store chain Steve & Barry’s will soon file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Port Washington, N.Y.-based Steve & Barry’s has more than 270 stores across the nation, including one that opened in early 2008 in Birmingham.
The Wall Street Journal story, citing unnamed sources, said the company has been in discussions with Sears Holdings Corp. about a possible bailout. The company has been struggling after defaulting on a loan, the New York Times reported.
Steve & Barry’s carries actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten collection; tennis star Venus Williams’ Eleven by Venus Williams collection; and actress Amanda Bynes’ Dear collection same day payday loans. For men, Steve & Barry’s has the NBA star Stephon Marbury’s Starbury collection, surfer Laird Hamilton’s Wonderwall collection and lines of collegiate wear.
