Legislators wrangle as budget deadline nears

The clock is ticking, and the Legislature is moving forward with plans in hopes of resolving the state's $2 billion budget deficit before the fiscal year ends June 30.

The Arizona Senate and House of Representatives are finalizing separate budget plans that will need to be melded before going to Gov. Janet Napolitano.

The Republican-controlled Legislature and Democratic governor need to come up with a budget compromise on spending cuts, decide whether to use bond funds for schools and university construction, and agree on economic stimulus plans that range from preserving property tax cuts and expanding research and development tax credits to creating tax breaks for solar energy firms and a downtown Phoenix development http://fcrwizard.com.
