KKHI brings back smooth jazz

KKHI-FM (branded as K-High 101.9) has been relaunched as a "smooth jazz" format station serving the Denver-Boulder area using the frequency of regional-Mexican music station KDGQ-FM.

Centennial-based KKHI is owned by Sacramento, Calif-based Bustos Media LLC, owner of about 25 radio stations and three TV outlets nationwide.

The signal will carry a 24-hour "Smooth Jazz Network" format produced by Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Broadcast Architecture as well as use local hosts in some timeslots.

Until the format change, the station was branded as La Gran D 101.9. It was a smooth-jazz station once before in the 1990s.

Kenny Cortes will serve as 6-10 a.m. weekday morning host at KKHI. He previously worked at former smooth-jazz station KJCD-FM, which in March switched to a sports format and changed its call letters to KKFN-FM (branded as 104.3 The Fan) faxless online payday advances.

Recording artist Dave Koz will be featured as a KKHI host 2-7 p.m. weekdays.

Chuck Lontine will serve as vice president and general manager of KKHI, Broadcast Architecture announced.
