Hawaii hotel occupancy down nearly 4%
Hotel occupancy is down on all Hawaii islands except Kauai, while room rates are up everywhere but the Big Island.
For the week ending March 15, statewide occupancy declined 3.9 percentage points to 71.6 percent as compared to the same week last year.
Oahu hotels saw a 2.6 percentage point dip in occupancy to 71.8 percent, Maui dropped 4.9 percentage points to 75.4 percent, and the Big Island was down 10.4 percentage points to 65.2 percent.
In contrast, Kauai hotel room occupancy climbed 3.2 percentage points to 70.6 percent.
Hotel room rates statewide increased 5 percent to average $221 per night free credit reports.
Room rates on Oahu were up 6.7 percent to $181, rates on Maui grew 7.2 percent to $306, and Kauai rates jumped 8.7 percent to $233.
Only Big Island room rates declined, down 4.1 percent to $203.
Nationwide, hotel room occupancy was down 2.6 percentage points to 65.7 percent, while room rates were up 6.8 percent to $112.
