Apple director Jerry York dead at 71

Apple Inc. said Thursday that long-time member of its board Jerry York has died at age 71.

York was a long-time adviser to investor Kirk Kerkorian and was once chief financial officer at International Business Machines Corp. and Chrysler. He also served on the board of General Motors. He also served as president and chief executive of Harwinton Capital.

York was hospitalized on Wednesday near his home in Detroit after reportedly suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage in his Detroit home guaranteed fast personal loans.

"Jerry joined Apple's Board in 1997 when most doubted the company's future. He has been a pillar of financial and business expertise and insight on our board for over a dozen years," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. "It's been a privilege to know and work with Jerry, and I'm going to miss him a lot," Jobs said.
